Nice replacement board for my laptop. Well lit keyboard to make typing easier in the dark. Not a strong magnet, so it does not attach as the original one did. Still glad I got it.

This keyboard works better than others I have purchased. I works like a larger keyboard. It has the ability to set at an angle which is a better ergonomic fit. It also allows you to use it flat if you like. The color matches my computer the and it's lightweight but strong. I have dropped my entire laptop keyboard attached and it came away completely unscathed.

I needed a backup keyboard for my Surface tablet after my original started acting up, and this third-party option caught my eye mainly for the backlighting and the price. Right out of the box, the pitch black finish looked sleek against my device, and the magnetic attachment snapped on securely. The typing experience is decent for a small tablet keyboard the keys have a slightly softer press than the official one, which took a couple days to get used to, but now I can type comfortably for hours. The backlight is a definite plus for dim rooms, though I keep it on the mid-level setting since the brightest mode has some uneven bleed around the key edges. The 11 colors are fun, but honestly, I stick to white or blue for practicality. The pen holder is a nice idea, but it only fits my slim Surface Pen sideways. It’s secure, but looks a bit awkward. Battery life is solid, lasting weeks with daily use and the backlight on about 50% of the time. My main gripe? The plastic build feels a little light when detached, and the spacebar has a faint metallic rattle if I hit it off-center. For the price, though, it’s hard to complain too much. It does exactly what it promises without any major flaws.
Bottom Line: This is a surprisingly capable budget-friendly alternative if your priority is functionality over premium materials. It delivers reliable typing, useful backlighting, and stable connectivity for everyday work. While the build feels a bit plasticky and minor quirks like the pen holder’s fit or key sounds exist, it’s a practical choice for Surface users wanting essential features without the steep price tag.

This “typecase Keyboard Compatible with 13-inch Surface Pro 11/10/9/8/X, Wireless, 11-Color Backlit, Pencil Holder - Pitch Black” is very nice. When attached, it feels very similar to the official Microsoft Surface Pro keyboard. However, for the 13-inch laptop, the official keyboard has a soft/fuzzy texture, while this one is harder and feels more like a normal one, which I liked. The connection between the keyboard and screen, the keys, the typing speed, and everything else about this keyboard functions just as well as with the official keyboard. When wireless, it also works very well and I have not noticed any problems. This typecase keyboard also has a location for you to store the Surface Pro Pen, it just won’t charge it. Microsoft’s OEM keyboard that supports pen charging costs $150+, so this keyboard is of a great price (just missing the charging function).
Thank you for reading this review, I hope that this review is helpful to you in support of your purchase decision.

This RGB keyboard cover for my wife's new work Microsoft Surface Pro 11 has completely transformed her productivity and aesthetic and fit in with my wifes desk perfectly!
The typing experience is incredibly satisfying – the keys have a perfect amount of travel and responsiveness, making long typing sessions for work much more comfortable. But the RGB backlighting is the real showstopper. Being able to add a personalized touch to my setup. It's especially useful when she's working in lower light conditions in the evenings.
It clips on seamlessly, feels very premium, and turns her Surface into an even more versatile and stylish workstation. It's a fantastic upgrade that enhances both form and function for any Surface!

This Typecase wireless keyboard is a perfect match for Surface Pro models 11, 10, 9, 8, and X. Its 13-inch size offers a comfortable typing experience without adding bulk, making it ideal for work or travel.
The standout feature is the 11-color backlit keys, which are not only stylish but also great for low-light environments. The midnight black finish looks modern and professional.
Wireless connectivity is reliable, and the keyboard pairs easily with your Surface device, enhancing productivity with a responsive, quiet typing feel.
A fantastic accessory for Surface users who want both functionality and flair!

I'm not sure where to start here. I've got a Surface Pro X, and I bought it in a bundle with the OEM keyboard cover. I *love* the Surface Pro X, including the OEM keyboard cover, BUT there are times when I really wish it was wireless. I came across and thought I'd give it a try. It's really hard not to compare it to the OEM keyboard cover (which in my case is NOT a wireless model) so I'll spend a lot of this review doing that comparison.
First impressions -- the typecase cover is slightly thicker and heavier than the OEM model. I was expecting this because it has to have a battery. That said, it feels sturdy and more premium than I was expecting for the price level. The packaging also feels fairly premium... again much better than expected. The keys are nice and pleasing to use, but a little louder than the OEM model.
Setup -- Unlike the OEM, there's some required setup here, as the keyboard connects via Bluetooth. The provided instructions were clear (and not Engrish like some of the other low-price stuff I've received from Amazon) and I was up and running pretty quickly. One thing to note -- unlike the OEM, there is a power switch on this model. It doesn't work until you switch on the power.
Usage -- The first thing I had to get used to was the aforementioned power switch. Not that big of a deal, but something to remember. Otherwise, it operates like a standard bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Just like every other bluetooth keyboard and mouse I've ever had, there's always a slight delay. It's especially noticeable with the mouse. I think a lot of people don't notice it, but it drives me a little nuts. This isn't the typecase's fault as it seems to be something you experience with every bluetooth keyboard/mouse, but just be aware of it if you're sensitive to it like I am. This is not something you experience with the OEM keyboard cover.
The keyboard feels nice and the backlit keys are great. The multi-color options is a fun touch and a big upgrade over the OEM.
Another gotcha to remember -- the typecase does NOT charge directly via the keyboard connectors on the Surface. Instead, there's a USB-C charge port on the side. This kind of sucks because you need to remember to bring a charge cable with you. Wouldn't want to be in the middle of typing up a report and have your keyboard battery die...
Yet another gotcha -- The typecase does not communicate physical connection status with the Surface. I have my Surface configured to be in Tablet mode when the keyboard isn't connected. This is seamless with the OEM keyboard cover, but with the typecase, you need to manually change between the modes.
Final thoughts:
Let's start with the pros:
- It's wireless
- It's only slightly heavier and thicker than the OEM
- Cool backlit colors
- Good feel all around
- The price
...and the Cons:
- Needs a separate cable to be charged
- Needs to be switched on and off separately
- Doesn't communicate with the Surface about physical connection status
IMO, you have to factor in the price when you give the final score. At $40, this device deserves 4 stars. Compared to the OEM which costs more than twice as much, despite its drawbacks, it also adds some cool features. At a higher price (say $80+) I might subtract a star and bring it down to 3.
In my opinion, buy this device if:
- You are price conscious
- You need wireless capability
- You plan on using your Surface primarily as a tablet and only need the keyboard occasionally.
Go with the OEM if:
- You're primarily using the device with the keyboard/mouse
- Small size & low weight is an important quality to you in your device

How does the Typecase keyboard compare against the Surface Pro Signature keyboard? Surprisingly VERY well. On top of being less than half the cost, the Typecase keyboard comes with more features that make it a better choice for daily use. The Typecase keyboard is significantly brighter and the multiple LED backlight colors allow for some more personalization. The face of the keyboard is a rigid plastic housing, but the back has a nice black alcantara material like the OEM keyboard does. The Typecase keyboard is just a hair thicker, which is expected as the Typecase keyboard has another advantage. The ability to work without being attached makes it more versatile. I took the Typecase out to 32 ft away from the screen, and there was virtually zero latency with input even from that distance! The initial pairing was INSTANT and reconnecting is just as fast. After a week of use the battery is still at least at 75% (as noted by the blinking battery LED). The only negative I can truly count against the Typecase keyboard is that the magnet that attaches the keyboard to the Surface Pro needs to be just a little stronger. With the extra weight of the Typecase I have found it disconnecting when picking up my Surface Pro. I'm just so used to being able to snatch my Surface Pro and the keyboard securely following suit. Other than that the Typecase Keyboard is a very good, lower cost alternative to the expensive OEM keyboard.

Arrived almost fully charged. This will not charge via the Surface Pro. You will need to charge this separately. It also needs to be paired, it is not an official windows product therefore must connect to the device differently. Not a huge disadvantage but for those that have a reference between "official" accessories and aftermarket, this may matter. The keyboard led background color can be changed, nice but the lights will reduce the battery life. The pen has it's seat. The keyboard is fully functional and the trackpad as well but again if you have not used the "official" keyboard/trackpad then you may not notice the difference of keystroke pressures or feel and/or trackpad operations or differences. All said and done the battery life may predict how long this actually lasts for each user but it does what is expected. The value is decent to good.

The Typecase keyboard offers a smooth and quiet typing experience, with responsive keys and a vibrant 11-color backlight. Bluetooth pairing is quick and reliable, and clear instructions are included to guide you through the Bluetooth connection process. The large trackpad supports multitouch gestures well, enhancing productivity. A small power button on the side makes it easy to turn on, and the keyboard requires charging. The built-in pen holder is convenient for storage but does not support charging. While slightly bulky, it’s a functional and well-designed option for Surface Pro users.

Let me tell you that, especially for the price, this keyboard is GREATLY preferred to the OEM alternative. Please note that this keyboard does not feature the dedicated Copilot, snipping tool or the same mute button that you will find on the OEM version. Instead what would have been the mute key is a dedicated backlighting key instead, which I prefer. F2 is the dedicated mute button so there is no functionality lost. The Fn key also substitutes for the Win System key so that functionality is not lost either. This keyboard comes 70% - 100% charged. It comes with a USB C to USB A charging cord that can charge while the keyboard is in use. I am charging while using the keyboard now. But THE BEST feature of this keyboard is that it can be used while attached to my Surface Pro (of course), but also while DETACHED from the unit. That makes this keyboard equivalent to FLEX! I am using this from across the table now. The transmit range is over 30 feet. I am so happy to own this! The only thing missing is the pen, if that's important to you. It is not important to me. There is also convenient technical support by phone, email or chat for this device. This keyboard is the best value for the price and the definition of the ultimate Amazon shopping experience!

This might be the best 3rd party keyboard I've used for my Surface Pro X. Even though this doesn't charge the slim pen and it needs to be charged separately (doesn't draw power from the tablet), it has several advantages that make it a worthy replacement or alternative to the Microsoft keyboard cover. First, the price is excellent - this is a very well built device and feels premium, so the price is surprising and great. Second, in terms of build and materials the keyboard and trackpad feel and perform very similarly to the Microsoft keyboard - typing and navigating with the trackpad all feel great. No issues with latency, delays, or dropped connections even though this is connected via Bluetooth. It feels just as responsive as the MS keyboard. And third, the fact that it is connected via Bluetooth means I can still use this when it isn't physically connected to my Surface - I can have my tablet on a stand or on the airplane tray and be able to use the keyboard flat on another surface like my lap; this has made it much more usable on a plane. And for bonus points - connecting this keyboard was VERY easy, getting automatically detected by my Surface and prompted to connect. And more bonus points - this keyboard top surface and edges feel more like a laptop keyboard, but it still has the soft cloth cover like the MS keyboard; it feels more polished this way and much more premium in feel. Very happy with this keyboard cover for my Surface Pro X!

This is a great key board and I found it to connect seamlessly through Bluetooth. I like the different colored backlight and the ability to change it to suit your mood. The key board responds well enough as does the touch pad though at time the mouse pointer takes a little bit before it starts moving and you really have to push to get it to click. Some of the negatives, I found that though it does connect through Bluetooth well, at times I find myself having to reconnect when I reboot or turn on the surface. This does not happen all the time but it can be real annoying. The OEM keyboard connects at the hardware level very nicely and charges the pen I have which this key board does not charge. I am pretty anal about how I have my devices set up. When I connect the keyboard my whole task bar changes to large icons and they do not all fit. I have not yet found a way to get that fixed however I'll keep trying. Another problem I found is that the virtual keyboard constantly shows over by the clock. It does not recognize the new USB keyboard. I am also still working on the setting for this also. Currently I am not using the keyboard till I have more time to look into some of the issues I have found. I currently have an Surface pro 8.

This is a very nice type cover for a variety of the surface covers, mine was for the Surface Pro 8 specifically. It it was easy to setup and it works and it's very sturdy.
Here's why I gave it a 4 instead of a 5:
1. It uses Bluetooth to connect; the standard keyboard you get from Microsoft when you buy a Surface uses a protocol that connects the devices behind the scene at the hardware level; so your keyboard connects on snap and requires no additional anything to install; it just works like you plugged a keyboard in; what this means and why it's important is because this keyboard, while pretty and very nice, its only connection protocol is Bluetooth which is great but it's not the best (not in this case); I can't use this keyboard in BIOS but I can use one from Microsoft in BIOS, which may or may not be important to you. I did not dock them a star for this because I'm pretty sure the only company I can get a keyboard to work the way the OEM one does, is from Microsoft.
2. While it is a pretty keyboard; I'm the princess and the pea when it comes to stuff; every problem has to be overcome before I stop thinking about it. In this case, the touch pad supports the light touch but it also supports a heavy touch (you having to like really press to initiate a click and it presses in like a mouse click, this is the default setting, I had to find the light touch support in the settings). Well, this causes the touch pad to be floating on a device to register you pushing it in and because of that, every time I use my thumb to click, I hear the 'bash' of my thumb against the touch pad and I hear it echo through the device. I'm not happy about this; I don't even know that I could get used to it. When my computer starts to make an abnormal noise, I have to fix it; I can't go on with it making a funky noise. I'm pretty sure that this also causes the keyboard to be thicker (or maybe it's the battery, I'm not 100%) but if this were thinner (more like the OEM one) and they ditched the "heavy click" for a touch pad that doesn't 'click' as a whole unit, it would have been better, imo.

This is the best keyboard that I have ever owned. I have owned the expensive Microsoft Surface Pro's keyboard, this keyboard is superior to those. The setup is so easy and stress free, it almost sets itself up. Setup took less than a minute.

Good and I like, Other than the fact that this keyboard needs to be charged seperately.. kinda hassle. Having to need another charger in hand

It is much better then the last one I bought.
Eugenia Ross
The keyboard connected easily and the keys work well. I enjoy the ability to use the keyboard without it being connected physically. One thing to keep in mind is that the keyboard needs to be charged regularly, though if the backlight is turned off, the charge lasts longer. Overall, good value for the price, and I like the backlight and Bluetooth features.

The only problem that I had with my original Surface Prof keyboard is that I really wanted to be able to use it when it wasn’t connected to my tablet. And this solves that problem.
Now. What am I sacrificing for this convenience?
Well, I do have to charge this via USB C as it needs power to work without being attached to the host. No biggie as the charge lasts for a while. I haven’t found a way to check the battery life (maybe there is one?) but I have only had one experience of getting caught with no juice and having to use the on-screen keypad. So it wasn’t the end of the world, but it is an annoyance that could have been avoided.
There is a lag. Not a huge one, but if I am not actively using the keyboard, it will drop the bluetooth connection. Not a huge deal as I have just gotten in the habit of tapping the space bar to wake it up before I start typing.
It fits my tablet perfectly. And,my stylus pen fits perfectly in the slot AND the magnet holds it so well that I don’t have to worry about losing it. I have lost so many pens by trusting that the magnet will prevail only to have them flung into the abyss never to be seen again.
I like that the keyboard is back lit. The one I had before was not and it drove me bananas. I like being able to adjust the color and brightness to suit my environment.
I really don’t have any real complaints. I’ve been told that my typing is loud on this keyboard, but honestly my typing is hard and loud on every keyboard so that might be more of a me issue. I fo find that I am not able to type as quickly, but that might just be my imagination. I also have found that closing the keyboard doesn’t always turn off the screen. So while before I wouldn’t have to be particularly aware of turning off my tablet when not in use, I now have to double check or else I will run down the battery while it is just being transported in my bag.
Overall, I am pleased with this keyboard and glad that I took a chance. I am a little confused by reading other people’s reviews because it seems like the cost for this item fluctuates. Don’t overspend for this, but it is a good choice if you get it when it’s listed at a good price.

We got this as a replacement keyboard for my son in high school. It was very easy to use super quick no install needed. Just have to remember to charge it almost every night.

This is a pretty good keyboard. Note, it is a Bluetooth keyboard and although it magnetically attaches to the surface, there is no charging involved. You have to charge it using a usb-c charger (which comes with the device - no brick). I like the lights changing colors on it.
Overall, not a bad alternative to the real thing if you're looking to save a few bucks.

I meant to order one for the iPad Pro 11 but got the wrong one. Regardless I like this keyboard. It paired easily with my iPad and an old Dell Latitude. It's USB rechargeable so it won't eat batteries. It feels nice to type on and the touch pad is smooth and not quirky. Was able to pair it with my iPad without issue. The touchpad doesn't mimic all the gestures I can do on the iPad screen but it's very nice for typing instead of pecking the on-screen keyboard. The Dell gave me a driver error the first time so I removed the device and repeated the pairing sequence and it worked. Everything works just like the keyboard on the laptop. I plan to try it with a raspberry pi also and am pretty confident it will work.
I like the choice of background colors and brightness level. I am glad I got this.

I ordered this after a frustrating experience with a competing keyboard for my Surface Pro 9 tablet. That keyboard was also a Bluetooth keyboard but it had a lag built in that was very annoying. It would go to sleep and not wake up until after a few keystrokes so the beginning of all my entries would be missing.
This Typecase keyboard has no such issue. It begins typing as soon as you hit the keys. The keyboard has a very substantial feel but is still lightweight and fits within my third-party case that I purchased. The pen storage area is a little short for the pen but it doesn't seem to matter when the case is folded.
The keyboard instantly connected to my tablet when I turned it on (it has a power switch - another nice feature) and you can check the battery level on the keyboard and also turn off the trackpad without going into your tablet settings, something other keyboards lack.
The back-lighting is adjustable to the color and intensity you want, you're not stuck with one or two settings.
Great keyboard!

The Typecase Surface Pro 9 Keyboard is an outstanding accessory for anyone using the Microsoft Surface Pro series! It’s compatible with the Surface Pro 11, 10, 9, 8, and X, making it a versatile choice. The Bluetooth wireless connectivity is seamless, allowing for easy pairing and a hassle-free typing experience.
One of the standout features is the 11-color backlighting, which not only looks fantastic but is also practical for low-light environments. The keys are responsive and comfortable to type on, making it ideal for both work and casual use. Plus, the built-in pen holder is a thoughtful touch, ensuring that I always have my Surface Pen at hand.
The sleek black design complements my Surface Pro beautifully, and it feels sturdy and well-made. Overall, I highly recommend this keyboard to anyone looking to enhance their Surface Pro experience—it's a game changer for productivity!

It connects right up to my SURFACE. It’s magnetized & clicked right I . Works great.

I just bought the Surface 9 Pro to replace my previous version. I learned the hard way that to do any productive work on these tablets, you need an attached case and trackpad. If you use your tablet for light messaging or watching videos, you can get by without a keyboard/case. Anything more than that, you better include one of these when you get your tablet. Besides having fewer headaches and getting more work done, the case will protect your unit if it is dropped. My daughter dropped her iPad, and repairing the internals and new screen was over $300, so the cases often pay for themselves many times over.

I don’t have a Surface tablet; I’m using this with a little mini pc and a portable monitor and it’s great. The touchpad is responsive and accurate, the keys feel good for such a tiny keyboard, and you can make the F1-F12 keys the default rather than their alternate functions (like Play and Dim Backlight).
The backlight has multi colors and 3 brightness levels. Some folks like a backlight, my first thing was to turn it off. If I work in the dark I’ll use it, but only then.
It connected to my mini pc just fine and while I haven’t used it a lot I feel like it’s the perfect keyboard for this pc.

I recently got my new Surface Pro 11 with OLED screen, and was very tempted to get the obscenely expensive Microsoft keyboard that goes with it, i was using another cheap third party slim keyboard that fits well, but the functionality is very limited. So i decided to give this TYPECASE brand a try. The best decision I've made in a very long time, i just saved almost $400 hundred bucks. This keyboard even has even has back lighted keys, which the insanely expensive Microsoft Keyboard does not. It works detached, and better yet, it has the sleep function when you close it with your Surface, the other third party keyboard i was using did not have the sleep function, so i had to hibernate the machine every time i closed the keyboard. That's mainly why i was very tempted to get the Microsoft keyboard, But now that's a thing of the past. this typecase keyboard is perfect and even has a slot to store the also third party slim pen I'm buying here on amazon shortly. The only recommendation to this seller and brand, is to try to make the keyboard in the same color to match the blue "sapphire" color of the Surface Pro 11, because this keyboard is black.

Look, this isn't a comprehensive review or anything. I had the original Surface 8 keyboard or whatever and it stopped working. I got this one for like $21 and it's great. THe advantage is that I can move it away from the screen. The disadvantages are that I have to turn on Bluetooth on my Surface and I have a few seconds of lag after a break.. It's a great replacement at this price point, even for $30 USD.

I have been vary happy with this tablet case/ keyboard combo.
The case itself is good quality and stays closed well with it's magnetic flap. I also like the strength of the magnet that holds the keyboard in the case, it stays in place and doesn't budge until i remove it. The keyboard itself actually works very well. It connected very quickly to my phone and to my tablet. It is responsive and the lights behind the keys are very attractive. You can choose what color they are and how bright (or turn them off entirely).
